Families Of Italy Dvd Review

Arrives on DVD December 13, 2012 from Master Communications

You’re invited to visit the country known as Lo Stivale, a.k.a “The Boot,” and to spend some time with two of its young citizens in Families of Italy, the newest title in the award-winning Families of the World series, venturing onto DVD  December 13, 2012 from Master Communications.
The series – 28 titles and growing – enables future travelers to reach across the globe and visit other people and cultures, all from a child’s point of view.  Always focusing on two children from differing households, one urban, one rural, and narrated by children,Families of the World DVDs invite viewers to follow two families’ daily routines, introducing both the similarities and differences that exist between them, as well as us.
Italy, officially the Italian Republic, is a unitary parliamentary republic in South-Central Europe, the 24th most-developed country and the birthplace of Maritime republics and theRenaissance.
In Families of Italy, we meet Veronica, 14, who lives on a sheep farm in the Italian countryside with her parents, older brother Antonio and younger sister Kiara.  Cheese is the family business, processing it right on the property from the milk of their 300 sheep.  Kids may envy Veronica a little when they see she sometimes has cookies and milk for breakfast, but maybe not that she attends school six days a week (though Saturdays are half-days).  During the week she helps her mother deliver their cheese to the local stores, often stopping by to visit her grandmother in town.  Veronica also helps make the family’s favorite dessert, tiramisu, for the midday meal (called dinner), then finishes the 1-2 hours of homework she has every day.  After dad has finished milking the sheep in the evening, he joins the family as they walk through nearby Salerno, admiring the Christmas lights that have been put on display for the season.  The next day, Veronica takes us to the nearby ancient ruins, including Pompeii, that lie in the shadow of the massive, and (thankfully) quiet, Mt. Vesuvius.
Next we meet 10-year-old Luigi, who lives on an olive plantation with his parents, grandparents (he’s named after his grandfather Luigi) and siblings Antonia and Thomás.  Olive oil is the family business, with local farmers coming to their on-site factory next to the house to have their olives pressed.  Luigi plays tambourine in a music group and is normally an active boy but is recovering a broken ankle and is sporting a cast (courtesy of the country’s free healthcare).  He attends school from September to June from morning until early afternoon, then returns home for dinner before helping round the farm, on which they grow kiwi, walnuts, oranges, pomegranates and a variety of vegetables.  Come along with the family as they celebrate the Day of the Dead, during which they visit the tombs of their loved ones, leaving flowers and prayers.  Then it’s back home to make pizzas with the grandparents before turning in for the night.
Families of the World is recommended for ages 5-11 and retails for $29.95.  The series features families in Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Mexico (includes Spanish and English soundtrack) and More Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Russia, Sweden, Thailand, the USA, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Germany and the Philippines.

My Thoughts:

I recently received a promo code to try out  Portable North Pole's personalized premium video, which also included a phone call from Santa. The video had to have been the cutest thing ever. It not only included a carol with my kids names in it, but a picture of my kids in it too along with many other special features. Setting this video up was simple for me to do and only took a few minutes. The hardest part was figuring out which picture I wanted to use.  I could not get over how real everything looked. You will be amazed at it too if you have not seen it yet.

My kids (especially my younger two) could not get over Santa coming on the screen and saying their names and how old they were. They were so excited and then they were even more excited to see him pull their own book from his library of all the kids around the world.

We have the phone call set to come in on Christmas Eve, so I can't wait to see their reaction to that as well. I know they are gonna love it.

If you are looking for another fun way to celebrate the holidays with a young special person in your life this would make a great gift.

Some shows today that they all shown on tv in my opinion are just not meant for kids. I am so glad that Hulu came up with  Hulu Kids. Now my kids can go to one area and browse and I don't have to worry about what they may find there. Its very easy to move around, my daughter who is eight can even find her way around the hub. I am even confident Mr C who will be 4 soon could find his way around it on the computer too if that's where you watch from.

We mainly did most of our streaming from our Roku and our blu rays, but you can watch with your PS3 and they have apps you can add to your Ipad or adroid to device too so you can watch basically anywhere.

If you are looking for great content for your kids that are commercial free, the Hulu Kids is a perfect choice for you. Be sure to check it out, its available for $7.99 a month.

Christmas Roses Book Review

Synopsis:
Celia Anderson doesn't need anything for Christmas except a few more boarders, which are hard to come by in this small mining town. She certainly doesn't have a husband on her Christmas wish list. But when a wandering carpenter finds lodging at her boarding house, she admits that she might remarry if she found the right man--the kind of man who would bring her roses for Christmas. It would take a miracle to get roses during a harsh Wyoming winter. But Christmas, after all, is the time for miracles . . .

My Thoughts:

This was a very relaxing and easy read for me. The characters were great and really made the story and this did a great job helping me get in the Christmas spirit. This book took me back in time, a time that I am in love with. Things seemed so much different in the 1800's.

This is really a lovely story that will truly touch your heart this Holiday season. Its a sweet romance that you will remember for times to come.

Disclosure: A book was provided in order to conduct review. This is 100% my opinion.

Chilly Christmas Dvd #Holiday Giveaway

Dawn's Great Finds 2012 Holiday Gift Guide

DVD Synopsis:

Chilly Christmas , produced by Steven Paul, follows 11-year-old Bobby Cole, his detective dad (C. Thomas Howell, E.T., The Extra Terrestrial, The Outsiders), and their lovable-but-destructive pooch, Chilly, who live together in Sunshine Beach, California. When Bobby’s father is offered a job promotion in New York City, Bobby is thrilled for him – but his excitement quickly turns to heartbreak when he realizes he may have to say goodbye to Chilly, who is too rambunctious to live in a tiny city apartment! Desperate not to leave Chilly behind, Bobby and his friends try to acclimate him to city living (including using the toilet and a treadmill!). But, while the Coles prepare Chilly for the Big Apple, trouble begins brewing in their own backyard when a dog-napper (Tom Arnold, True Lies, “Roseanne,” A Christmas Wedding Tail) and his crew suddenly show up in Sunshine Beach, hot on Chilly’s tail! It’s up to Detective Cole, Bobby and Chilly to stop the thieves in their tracks and keep their family together for the holiday season – and for good!  Chilly Christmas was released to DVD on November 6, 2012.

My Thoughts:

This was a cute and funny movie to watch with my family. Of course while we were watching it the kids guessed what was gonna happen. That still not take away the fun though.  I personally enjoyed seeing Tom Arnold as the bad one as I have not seen him in anything in a while.  A cute movie that we are glad to add to our holiday movie collection.

Pinypon Party

I was recently selected to host a Pinypon and Nenuco party thanks to MommyParties! Miss Priss was off school so she had a few friends over to share the fun and introduce them to these cool new items.

Here is just a few things that were included in my kit. Let me take a moment and tell you about Pinypon. They are great for girls ages 4 and up. They are mini dolls all about fashion, love to shop and travel and play with their pets. What is not to love? I receieved a ton of mini Pinypons which we shared with our guests and two caravans which we raffled one off.

Also in my kit of goodies I received two newborn dolls from  Nenuco. Great for ages 3 and up. We kept one then offered another during the party as a giveaway. The baby is fun to play with. It drinks, uses the potty and the best part...it blows bubbles...how cute???

Everyone had a great time. The kids got to play games like scavenger hunts and even put on a fashion show.  Some girls had even said they had heard of these toys already. I think some may even be putting them on their wish list for Christmas.

You can also connect with Pinypon on Facebook andTwitter. And you can connect with Nenuco on Facebook and Twitter

Win it: One lucky DGF reader will win this dvd. To enter, simply fill out the rafflecopter form below.
